About the project

The EU funded project “Technical assistance for improved materials recovery from waste through separate collection, reuse and recycling based on circular economy principles” aims to support Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) in advancing towards EU accession by aligning waste management practices with the European Green Deal and Circular Economy principles.

This project addresses the need for a sustainable, circular approach to waste, emphasizing separate collection, reuse, and recycling to reduce environmental impact and enhance economic growth.

Through a multi-layered approach, the project will focus on:

  • Legislative Harmonization: Developing waste management laws that align with the EU Waste Package to create a solid legal framework for sustainable practices.
  • Policy Development: Strengthening policies and capacities across BiH to support waste reduction and foster collaboration among key stakeholders through structured working groups.
  • Practical Solutions: Implementing collection and treatment schemes for special waste categories to ensure a sustainable circular economy model.

By supporting policy alignment, enhancing local skills, and fostering economic resilience, the project paves the way for BiH to transition toward a circular economy, ultimately improving resource use, creating jobs, and reducing waste management costs.
